Forum: classic_tv Subject: Archival status of "The Ernie Kovacs Show" (WABD-TV version)

This 1954-1955 late-night talk show aired on WABD-TV and featured crazy off-beat interviews, comedy sketches, Edie Adams singing, and guest performances, plus further insanity.

Only 4 kinescopes survive of the series
22 March 1955 (incomplete - final half only - print is warped)
24 March 1955 (incomplete - first half only?)
29 March 1955 (incomplete - first half only?)
31 March 1955 (complete - final episode of series)

I don't think these are circulating among collectors. Shame, we'd all love to see it. I read a description of one episode (in a book about DuMont) which mentioned that Kovacs did a spoof commercial for a product called "Kodadent", a black toothpaste. In another segment, Ernie did an imitation of Arthur Godfrey. One of the guests brought along a crazy record of sound effects...these sounds were accompanied by crazy film clips (the author of the book that describes the kinescope identifies one of the clips as being a filmed insert made for an episode of "Not for Publication", a live crime drama). During a live pitch for one product, Ernie advises that the product may be suitable for use on any member of the family who was made of suede.
